It is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's dream to escape and find a little place in the country where he can live off the land. When he finds River Cottage in Dorset he sets about turning his dream into reality. The flower bed makes way for terracing to maximise growing space for vegetables. Then Hugh sets off in search of livestock. Hugh has sampled the good life for a year now and has found it to taste sweet. He plans to turn his small holding into a real home farm and edge a little closer to the holy grail of self-sufficiency In his first year Hugh had just the cottage and the garden but he soon found he needed more land so in his 2nd year he did a deal with a neighbour to rent 4 acres. It is now the start of the third year and as well as being a time for looking back with joy and satisfaction at the events of the last two years it is a time to ask the really big question: Should Hugh stay at River Cottage forever?
